Steps to Improve Macbook’s Battery Condition

Have you noticed that your Macbook’s battery is not doing that great lately? If you have had the computer for a while, it should not be that surprising. However, if the issue turns into something that you can longer manage, it is time to make some adjustments in how you use the Mac.

There are multiple ways to improve battery condition. If you want to create a solid maintenance routine and stick to it, read the steps below. We are going to explain steps to improve Macbook’s battery condition.

Macbook’s Battery Condition

Step #1 – Enable Energy Saving

The energy-saving feature can be enabled in the System Preferences. You can use the sliders to set the time when you want for the computer to fall asleep. Also, there is an option to disable access to the network and other features while the computer is asleep. You will also save energy by doing this.

Step #2 – Scan System for Potential Malware

Viruses and malware cause various issues, and the battery is no exception in this regard. Your biggest problem could lie in a cybersecurity threat that has infected the computer.

Scan the system and make sure that there are no corrupted files. And in case the antivirus finds something, remove it from the computer.

You may want to take preventive measures for the future. For starters, the firewall should be enabled. Adding an ad blocker to the browser will prevent pop-ups that redirect to malware-infested landing pages. Getting a virtual private network also helps with security while using the internet.

Step #3 – Free up Drive Space

Running out of hard drive space is quite common among Mac users. The drives do not offer that much storage, and it becomes difficult fitting everything you want.

Free up Drive Space

So what are your options if you want to free up some space? Well, begin with useless files, like language packs, old downloads, email attachments, and useless applications. Temporary data, like backups and app extensions, is also a hindrance.

Once you get rid of that, look at what you can transfer to Dropbox and iCloud as well as external storage devices if you have any. Lastly, if you like to consume a lot of media, like movies and TV shows, subscribing to streaming platforms would eliminate the need to store those large files on the hard drive.

Step #4 – Manage Applications

Applications are the one thing that consumes the most resources. And it does not matter if it is something running in the background or if you are using it actively at the moment.

The Activity Monitor will show you which apps are power-hungry and which ones are not. The most important thing is to minimize the usage of resources.

One last thing to note about applications is that some of them use geolocation positioning and require extra power to keep track of the computer’s location constantly. You can disable the feature in the settings. It ought to save another bit of battery power.

Step #5 – Set Optimal Temperature

Temperature levels also determine whether your computer is operating optimally. Having internal fans working overtime is not good.

Set Optimal Temperature

Poor air circulation in a room and overabundance of dust and dirt inside the computer are the most common causes behind non-optimal temperatures. You can also look to get a cooling pad, but it is only part of the solution.

Step #6 – Turn Off the Macbook

When you are finished working, do not leave the Mac in the sleeping mode. It is better to shut it down until the next time. When left overnight, Macbooks in the sleep mode tend to consume about 6 percent of battery. Meanwhile, the ones that are shut off only consume about 2 percent.

Step #7 – Unplug Charger When Finished

Unplug the charger once the bar is at 100 percent. There is no reason to have it plugged because all the excessive power is going to waste since the bar is already at full. There might be instances when you forget about charging the Macbook. It is not the end of the world, but try to keep track of these things.

Neglecting everything could lead to the charger starting to malfunction. While there are other charging methods available, it would still be better to stick to what has been designed originally.

Step #8 – Install Updates

Updates for the operating system, as well as applications that you use, are not usually associated with a positive impact on battery health. But when you introduce such improvements, you can expect the situation to change for the better as well.

Step #9 – Disable Unnecessary Features

You are bound to have some unnecessary features that are consuming battery life. Visual effects and Bluetooth are perfect examples. The latter is not something you should have enabled when you are not using it. As for the visuals effects and even something like a backlit keyboard, they offer nothing of real value and should not be enabled in the first place.
